Jack Ladder

Jack Ladder is an Australian born songwriter delivering lovelorn tales in his bittersweet baritone.

In 2005 Ladder’s debut album Not Worth Waiting For was released by Spunk Records. Pouring ambrosial vocals over enchanting backdrops of electronics, wheezy harmonium and a ragbag assortment of other instruments. His story tale songs earning him heavy rotation on independent radio and a series of national tours with Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Bill Callahan (Smog) and Okkervil River. Recorded to tape with minimal overdubs, over five hot summer days in the weeks before Christmas 2007, Laurenz Pike (Pivot, Triosk) on drums, Ben “Donny” Waples (Triosk) on bass, Stu Hunter on piano and organs, Arnie Hanna on guitar and Jason Tampake (Firekites, Josh Pyke) on fiddle, all rode by the seat of their pants working up arrangements on the fly. Engineered and mixed by Burke Reid (The Drones, The Mess Hall), co-producing with Ladder to achieve the honest and urgent sound. Love Is Gone, burns with a raw energy, driving rhythm and sharp lyrics.

Moving between early R&B, country-soul, and krautrock, Ladder maintains a dry Australian wit and biting modern sound. Inspired by Little Richard, Hank Williams and Sam Cooke, Love Is Gone is a powerful and direct piece of modern pop, both parts classic and chaotic. Jack Ladder is currently spending this spring of 2008 living and performing in New York, London and Berlin. While in New York recently Jack performed on NBC's high rating breakfast show "Good Day New York".

He was also chosen by Okkervil River leader Will Sheff to cover WIll's track "Starry Stairs" from the Stand Ins LP. Others performing tracks for this project include Bon Iver, AC Newman and David Vanderwelde.
